The Grand Daddy of All The Smartphones.Innovation of Y2K era :
Ericsson R380 was born in the Y2K era, means at the year of 2000AD. Ericsson R380 is a PDA with phone functionality attached. The phone part supports the normal activity such as text and calls, but on Ericsson R380 supported WAP internet browsing, Personal diary, Notes, Bigger contacts, Emails, Calendar in much more elaborate way. Also had Organizer, Voice dial, Voice answer, Voice memo, Calculator. Alot of those functionality of that phone was a step ahead innovation of its time.
Ground Breaking Design :
Ericsson R380 was a ground breaking designed phone of that time since other competitor had a few phones similar to this Ericsson R380, But they did not not offer Touchscreen With Stylus, Such competitor was Nokia’s Communicator Series phones. Ericsson R380 did not had any Hardware Buttoned QWERTY keyboard, Instead the keyboard was on the touch screen,horizontally Touch QWERTY keyboard. Such examples can be seen on now a days on Android, IOS, Bada, KaiOS etc powered phones.
EPOC OS :
Ericsson R380 had “Symbian EPOC OS”, Offered a verity of features like handwriting With stylus and recognizing it to the fonts, A full organizer and connectivity to a PC via data Cable or By InFra-Red (IR) Port, for backup and getting new data.
GSM 900/1800Mhz Dual Band :
Ericsson R380, supported GSM 900/1800Mhz Dual Band frequency, Therefore was made for European market. Due to GSM 900/1800Mhz Dual Band frequency, this phone was supported by most carriers in Asian,Africa and Australian countries also, Because those countries also uses GSM 900/1800Mhz frequencies. So, this phone was some what roaming capable phone of that time. Being aside a full PDA, This phone technically was a Flip Phone. Screen was half covered by a Flip part which contained Numeric dial pad on the top just like a regular phone. Basically Ericsson R380 is a normal looking phone with integrated PDA functionality.
Built In Modem :
Ericsson R380 supported a built in modem for PC. Getting internet connectivity on the Laptop was breeze. Phone offered Speaker Phone option, something that was offered on very few other phones at that time.
Classic Innovation :
Time has passed as it supposed to. Some Classic innovation of our past makes the present days pleasant. Ericsson R380 was a marvel of its time.
